1.11 Kyrgyz Verb Conjugations (Plural Subjects)

Of course, we also have the conjugations for we, you (inf), you (formal), and they. Thus, the complete verb chart for present tense verbs looks like this

Don't be confused. Й is the basic ending for all words ending in vowels, the conjugation (1st, 2nd, 3rd person) then will reflect the vowel before Й:

1.10 Kyrgyz Verb Conjugations

Kyrgyz suffixes (endings) are added based on the LAST vowel in the stem. These vowels are grouped into four categories:

So let's try to conjugate the verbs from our last lesson.

Жаз -- to write

Мен жазам. Сен жазасың. Сиз жазасыз. Ал жазат.

Жаша -- to live

Мен Бишкекте жашайм. (I live in Bishkek) Сен Бишкекте жашайсың. Сиз Бишкекте жашайсыз.

Ал Бишкекте жашайт.

Бил -- to know

Мен билем. Сен билесиң. Сиз билесиз. Ал билет.

Иште -- to work

Мен мектепте иштейм. (I work in a school.) Сен мектепте иштейсиң. Сиз мектепте иштейсиз. Ал мектепте иштейт.

Бол -- to be

Мен болом. Сен болосуң. Сиз болосуз. Ал болот.

Оку -- to read/study

Мен кыргызча окуйм. (I study Kyrgyz) Сен кыргызча окуйсуң. Сиз кыргызча окуйсуз.

Ал кыргызча окуйт.

Сүй -- to love

Мен сени сүйөм. (I love you) Сен мени сүйөсүң. Сиз мени сүйөсүз. Ал сени сүйөт.

Төлө -- to pay

Мен төлөйм. Сен төлөйсүң. Сиз төлөйсүз. Ал төлөйт.

Pay extra attention to the Kyrgyz letters ң (ng) and ү (ü), which are distinct from н and у.
